Job Description

The Merchant Adventurers’ Hall is one of York’s Medieval Marvels. Set in beautiful gardens in the heart of York, it is open for public use as a fully functioning museum, wedding and hospitality venue and meeting place some 663 years after construction began in 1357. We are seeking to appoint a Full Time Hall Keeper (Caretaker/Key Holder) to work as part of a small and dedicated team in the care and upkeep of the Merchant Adventurers’ Hall as a museum, venue for hire and home to the Company of Merchant Adventurers of the City of York.

 

Full Time Hall Keeper (Caretaker position)

£10.42 per hour

40 hours per week including weekends and evenings

 

To start week commencing Monday 13th April 2020

Overview:

The responsibilities of this post are particularly diverse and require the successful candidate to be enthusiastic, hardworking and pragmatic to help maintain the cleanliness and presentation of the Hall. To be fully effective the post holder will be required to work on their own initiative to provide the continuous maintenance required for such a historic building but they will also have to utilise excellent organisational and interpersonal skills to deliver a first-rate visitor and client experience. There is a requirement for the post holder to work weekends and at least one evening per week which will increase during busier periods.

Responsibilities in General:

The general responsibilities have been detailed below however; the role is not limited to these tasks.

  • Maintenance and cleanliness of the hall and gardens.
  • Minor repairs around the Hall and general gardening tasks.
  • Maintain security of the premises and contents of the hall.
  • Key Holder responsible for opening and locking up of the hall and grounds.
  • Dealing with contractors on site and in the surrounding properties where necessary.
  • Manage and implement the emergency procedures as necessary and act as the single point of contact during evening functions.
  • Act as first aider on site following the health and safety policy.
  • Security of hall and grounds during private hire events.
  • Engage with potential clients professionally and with the highest degree of customer service when conducting viewings of the hall, covering the admissions desk and dealing with clients during their event
